Tempur-Pedic or Comfor-Pedic, is there a difference?

Sleep Specialists at Mattresses & More

With all of the various space aged memory foam mattress products available through a multitude of channels, one might think that finding the perfect, pressure relieving mattress set could be a complicated drawn out process……

It can be, but it doesn’t have to be.  Though there are a myriad of manufacturer’s now producing ‘space foam’ mattress sets, there are a but a few highly regarded companies that make top quality mattress sets.

Tempur-Pedic, is of course the household name, and they do in fact make one of the most coveted, well received mattress lines, receiving commendation after commendation from assorted health and sleep professionals.  If there is anything to NOT like about the Tempur-Pedic Mattress collection it can most assuredly be reduced to one of three major concerns. Keeping in mind that most consumers are not even remotely affected by these purported drawbacks, let’s look into this a little bit closer.

Is it going to be hot? Tempur-Pedic will be the first to tell you that the first few nights on one of their premium sleep sets, as your body becomes acclimated to increased circulation and a healthier night’s sleep, you may notice a few degrees difference when transitioning from an older more basic mattress set. They have gone to great lengths to develop internal air flow systems for their mattress models as well as hi-tech outer covers to wick away moisture and increase breathability. The Bottom Line If you tend to sleep hot, or feel warm at night now, the Tempur-Pedic mattress is unlikely to sleep cooler, however if you don’t regularly feel warm at night now, you’re unlikely to have an issue with any of the Tempur-Pedic Models.

Am I sinking? The slow response and pressure absorbing nature of Tempur Material creates a sensation that the mattress is continually molding to the curves of your body. When you’re ready to move, you may notice that the mattress doesn’t move as fast as you do. If you consider that you should be tossing and turning a whole lot less once your new mattress begins absorbing all the tension and pressure, this may not be as inconvenient as it may seem. The real loss here may be when you move to the outside perimiter of the mattress, since the same material spans to the outside perimeter of the mattress, this sinking sensation can have a more pronounced negative impact when concentrating your wait on the edge, while entering and exiting the sleep surface.

Did the bed just get harder? Because Tempur material is activated by temperature, it can fluctuate a bit when the bedroom gets very very warm, or very very cold. Essentially if you were to let the bedroom temperature fall below 60 degrees during the winter, your mattress would feel less responsive and have an overall stiffer feeling. If you were to let the bedroom temperature rise to above 90 degrees during the summer your mattress may feel more pliable, and overall a bit softer.

Overall, the Tempur-Pedic is the industry standard and a great jumping off point when searching the perfect rest set for years of healthy and restorative sleep. If you were to search out an appropriate response for any of these minor concerns with the Tempur-Pedic mattress design, you would invariably find yourself looking at Simmons Comfor-Pedic Mattress line. Simmons Bedding, the Beautyrest people, have developed what they deem the ‘Next Generation of Memory Foam’ with their Comfor-Pedic and Beautyrest NxG series of mattresses. Though Tempur-Pedic was developed by Nasa for the space program, Comfor-Pedic’s Advanced NxG Material was designed from the ground up for the mattress industry, to deliver the same pressure relief and support that Tempur-Pedic is known for, while sleeping cooler, reacting faster, and holding a consistent feel across a broad range of temperatures and situations.

Dissipates Heat

NxG Advanced memory foam dissipates heat to help keep you at your ideal sleeping temperature.

Quicker Recovery

Patented memory foam technology responds quickly to move freely with your body’s contours.

Consistent Comfort

NxG Advanced memory foam conforms to your body from the moment it arrives to help eliminate any break-in periods and changes in feel due to temperature fluctuations.

Comfor-Pedic models also boast some best in class features that not even Tempur-Pedic can match. By adding a patented edge support system, sleeper’s are more able to stretch out over the whole surface of the mattress, without worry that when reaching the edge, they might not be as well supported. Plus adding a significant layer of latex to the core of the mattress provides a more buoyant and responsive over all feel and adds durability to an already extremely durable product. All Comfor-Pedic Mattress models have extended 25 Year Manufacturer’s Warranty against defect in workmanship or design. That makes Comfor-Pedic the longest warranted memory foam mattress available, as well as one of the most comfortable. Select models of the Comfor-Pedic line add a layer of GelTouch to the already pressure relieving design to create the ultimate in pressure relief, motion absorbtion and comfort. The Geltouch layer adds a cooling sensation and the utmost in conformability.

All Comfor-Pedic Models are available with advanced ergonomic foundations or on standard or low profile flat foundations, making them even more well suited for most any sleeper’s need.

So, when you’re ready for your next mattress, make sure and weigh your options with both of these premium sleep systems. Though Tempur-Pedic is the leading name in memory foam mattresses, the Simmons Bedding Company’s Comfor-Pedic line does offer some unique benefits, that not even Tempur-Pedic can provide.
